What it's for
FreedomSooner is a free, independent tool for UK homeowners who want to see what overpaying their mortgage would do: how much sooner they could be mortgage-free, how much interest they'd save, and what a rate change at the end of a deal would mean for their payments.
There's no sign-up, and the figures you enter never leave your browser. The site is funded by advertising.
Who runs it
I built FreedomSooner because I wanted a straight answer to a simple question: if I overpay my mortgage, when will I be free of it? The calculators I found were cluttered, pushed you towards a broker, or hid the numbers. This one doesn't. It's independent, isn't connected to any lender or broker, and runs from the UK.

How the numbers are worked out
Interest is charged monthly on the outstanding balance at the annual rate divided by 12. The regular payment is the standard repayment-mortgage formula for the balance, rate and term you enter. Overpayments reduce the balance straight away. When the rate changes, the regular payment is recalculated on the remaining balance over the remaining term, which is how lenders normally do it. There's a fuller explanation on the calculator page.
The calculations are checked by automated tests against published figures, for example the standard repayment on £200,000 over 25 years at 5% (£1,169.18 a month).
Limits
The results are estimates for illustration. Your lender may calculate interest daily or annually, apply overpayments at a different time, or charge fees and early repayment charges that aren't included here, so their figures can differ.
